Over the next few months we’ll be rolling out our next large upgrade! While many of the upgrades we perform happen seamlessly behind the scenes, this next one is more substantial and it requires your assistance. There is nothing to do just yet but we wanted to let our merchants know in advance about what the upgrade process entails so you’re prepared when the time comes. You’ll be notified by email as soon as you have the option to upgrade your store, so be sure to keep an eye out for future communications from Magento Go. For now, here is what you need to know:
What is included in the upgrade?
- 24 new free themes
- The ability to create order with composite products in the admin
- Shipping with label printing support (for UPS, USPS, DHL and FedEx)
- The ability to add custom order statuses
- Persistent shopping cart that allows consumers to add products to a single cart from multiple devices
- Minimum advertised pricing support
- The ability to edit contact information on an order without creating a new order
- And much more!
Once I’ve been notified, how do I upgrade my store?
Within the navigation bar of your admin panel, you will see the ‘upgrade’ menu at the far right. When you click this link, you’ll be able to create a version of your store using the upgraded software in a demo mode, without making any changes to your live store. This demo store will preserve all products, configurations and customizations from your live site and will take several minutes to create. It will also only be visible to you and not your customers.
Once you’ve created your demo store, you will be able to test out the new features in the backend and frontend of the demo version. If you like what you see and decide that you’d like to proceed with the upgrade, you will be able to transfer any changes you made in the demo store to your live site by selecting the box, ‘apply changes made in the demo store’ and then click the ‘upgrade store’ button. If you would like to upgrade but do not want to preserve the changes you made in the demo store, simply make sure ‘apply changes made in the demo store’ is not selected and then proceed with the ‘upgrade store’ button.
Can I choose when I’d like to upgrade my store?
Yes! To make this process as unobtrusive to your business as possible, we added the possibility for you to specify the date and time you’d like the upgrade to take place. Simply select your preferred time from the calendar before starting the upgrade.
Is there a date by which I must upgrade my store?
Yes. Within the email, we’ll notify you of the date by which you must upgrade your store. If you don’t upgrade your store within the allotted timeframe, we’ll upgrade your store for you automatically.
Will my site be down during the upgrade period?
Unfortunately, yes. Your site will be in maintenance mode for several minutes during the upgrade. This is why we recommend that you select an off-peak time to conduct the upgrade.
