Product Attributes

  • Creating Attributes Attribute properties define the product fields in your catalog, and determine how they are used throughout your store.
  • Managing Attributes Attributes are the building blocks of your product catalog, and each describes a specific characteristic of a product.
  • Creating Attribute Sets After you have created the individual attributes you need for a product,you can group them into an attribute set. Generally, you will have a separate attribute set for each type of product.
  • Deleting Attributes When an attribute is deleted, it is removed from any related products and attribute sets. System attributes are part of the core functionality of your store and cannot be deleted.
  • Attribute Frontend Properties Use the Frontend Properties section to configure whether the attribute is available in searches, layered navigation, product listings, and promo rule condition.
  • Defining Attribute Properties: Label & Options The options available for an attribute depend on which catalog input type has been set. This is set in the Properties section under the Attribute Properties Tab, in the Catalog Input Type for Store Owner option.
  • Creating Attributes Attributes enable you to differentiate products based on their unique attributes, such as the megapixels of a digital camera, or disk space of a hard drive. Customers can use attributes to compare products, filter catalog listings, and find specific products.
  • Filterable Attributes Layered navigation can be used to search for products by category and also by attribute value. For an attribute to be included in the layered navigation, its property settings must make it filterable.
  • Attribute Quick Reference Some product types have specific requirements for attribute settings. For example, the configurable product type has a specific set of requirements for drop-down attributes which must be set up correctly.
  • Product System Attributes The following system attributes are required for the operation of your store, and cannot be deleted.
  • Attribute Input Types The attribute input type determines the type of information that can be stored in the attribute and how it can be used.
  • Customer System Attributes Your store includes the most common customer attributes that most merchants need, such as the customer name, email, date of birth, and address— including street, city, ZIP code, and country code. These system attributes are required by Magento Go, and cannot be deleted.
  • Attribute Properties The Attribute Properties define the individual characteristics that determine how an attribute can be used in the product catalog.
