Excluding Images From ThumbnailsMagento Go provides the option to upload multiple images for a single product and place it in all product image sizes and locations or exclude them to specific sizes and locations.
Adding Product ImagesUsing images of consistent quality, size, and proportion gives your catalog that professional look and commercial appeal. This article explains how to upload images to your Magento Go store.
Using the Catalog Images ToolMagento Go resizes the product images you upload according to the dimensions specified by the theme. As a best practice, you should standardize the size of your images to ensure that they appear at the highest possible resolution, and maintain the correct proportion.
Importing Product ImagesStep-by-step instructions to help you import product images into your store.
Changing the Size of Catalog ImagesThe Catalog Images tool lets you override the default size and proportion of any image in your catalog layout by specifying the new size in pixels
Maintaining Image Aspect RatioBy default, the container that holds the product image is square. Therefore, you can take full advantage of the available space by making your product images square. However, regardless of their size or proportion, images are automatically resized to fit the width of the container.
Catalog Image ExamplesBoth images in the following example were originally rectangular. The first is a jpg, and the second is a .png with a transparent alpha channel.
Using the Thumbnail GalleryThe thumbnail gallery gives you the ability to display up to five different images of a single product. The position of the gallery varies by theme, but it usually appears just below the main image on the Product Detail page.
Adding Images to the Thumbnail GalleryTo add a new image to the gallery, follow the same process as for uploading the main product image. For best results, gallery image files should be the same size and proportion as the main product image.
Image Type and SizeThe following image types are used throughout the catalog, and you can choose which image you want to use for each. If you do not assign an image to each type, a placeholder image will be used instead.
Managing Product ImagesThe Images tab is used to upload and manage the display of images for the current product. You can upload multiple images for each product, and maintain different images for each store view.
Using Product Image PlaceholdersMagento Go uses temporary images as placeholders until the permanent product images are available. The initial placeholder image is the Magento logo, which you can replace with placeholder images of your own design.
Using Product Image WatermarksIf you have gone to the expense of creating your own original product images, there is not much you can do to prevent unscrupulous competitors from stealing them with the click of a mouse. However, you can place a watermark on each image, to identify it as your property and make it a less attractive target.
Watermark PositionsThe watermark used in these examples was a 470 x 470 .png file with a black logo and transparent background. The opacity and size were later adjusted from the Admin panel. You can experiment with different watermark settings until you find the look you want.
