Cookie Law Compliance with Magento Go

Cookies are small files that are saved to the computer of each visitor to your site, and used as temporary holding places for information. Information that is saved in cookies is used to personalize the shopping experience, measure traffic patterns, and improve the effectiveness of promotions.

To keep pace with recent legislation in the EU regarding the use of cookies, Magento Go offers merchants a choice of methods for obtaining customer consent:

  • Implied Consent
Using cookies with implied consent is the method that is currently the most widely adopted in the UK. Implied consent means that visitors to your store have a clear understanding that cookies are a necessary part of operations, and by using your site, have indirectly granted permission to use them.
  • Expressed Consent
Operating your store in Cookie Restriction Mode requires visitors to express their consent before cookies can be saved to their computers.  Unless consent is granted, many features of your store will be unavailable.

Although not required in the US, operating your store in Cookie Restriction Mode gives you the ability to be in compliance when conducting business in countries where the Cookie Law is in effect. For the most current information on the subject, visit the website of the Information Commissioner’s Office for the UK.  To learn more about our commitment to safeguard the personal information of our customers, see our Privacy Policy in the footer of the Magento Go site.
