Setting the Unit Price

The base price of a product can be used as a reference to calculate and display unit price variations based on a number of factors, including packaging units such as milliliter, gram, and centimeter. The ability to provide baseline product pricing is required by German law.

Products with Unit Price enabled have the following additional fields on the Product Information Prices tab:
  • Allow displaying the unit product’s price
  • Measurement to be used for the base product
  • Volume/size of one item of the base product
  • Measurement to be used for the unit product
  • Volume/size of the unit product

To configure the default unit price:

  1. From the Admin panel, select System > Configuration.
  2. In the Configuration panel on the left, under Catalog, select Catalog. Click to expand the Unit Price section, and do the following:
    1. If necessary, set Enable to “Yes.” Unit Price is enabled by default.
    2. In the Frontend Label field, use variables to define the label that appears to the customer on the Product Detail page. The default is:
      either {{baseprice}} / {{reference_amount}} {{reference_unit}}
    3. In the next field, select “Yes” if you want to calculate the price, including tax, of the unit product based on the price of the base product. Options include: Yes/No.
    4. If you are in the United States, set Measurement to “Pound (lbs).” Options include
      • Kilogram (kg)
      • Pound(lbs)
      • Liter
      • Milliliter (ml)
      • Meter (m)
      • Inch
      • Centimeter (cm)
      • Millimeter (mm)
      • Piece (pc)
    5. Enter the Volume/size of the unit product.
    6. If you want the unit price of the product to appear on the Product Detail page in the store, select “Yes.”

  3. Click the Save Config button to save your changes.
